Knox firefighters spray water into the remaining hot spots of an accessory building at 51 Bell Road destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning. Knox Fire Chief Bill Vinson said it appeared to be used for storage and mechanical work and the cause yesterday was not officially determined. The building was completely engulfed in flames when responders arrived, he said, and the equipment inside was destroyed. Altamont, Berne, East Berne, and Guilderland Center fire departments were on the scene, as well as Guilderland paramedics and the Altamont ambulance.

Smoke billows as firefighters clear away the charred ruins of an accessory building at 51 Bell Road early Wednesday morning. The fire was mainly fought from the outside of the building within an hour, Knox Fire Chief Bill Vinson said. Firefighters used up the water brought to the scene to fight the fire. When responders went to retrieve more water, a nearby dry hydrant appeared to be frozen, Vinson said; a tanker brought water from a hydrant in Altamont.
