Photos: Local Wrestlers Finish in The Top Seven in NYS

This past weekend, Feb. 25, three local wrestlers from Guilderland, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and Middleburgh sought to earn state championships in their weight classes. Guilderland’s Dillon Blanchard finished seventh in Division I-189, BKW-Middleburgh’s Liam English finished seventh in Division II-110 and Gabe English finished second in Division II-102.

Familiar foe: Guilderland’s Dillon Blanchard attempts to put his offensive moves onto section 2’s Farzad Ahmad of Shaker, Blanchard and Ahmad faced each other three times this month, where Blanchard won 9-2 in the division 1-189 match.

Ready to pounce: BKW-Middleburgh’s Gabe English looks to make a move on Section 3’s Gene Edwards of Central Valley Academy in the first period of the semifinals of the division 2-102 on Saturday morning. English won at the buzzer, 1-0.

Top 10: BKW-Middleburgh’s Liam English tries to turn Section 8’s Raymond McNulty of Cold Springs Harbor in the Division 2-110 consolation fourth round. English won by pin in 2:09 and went on to finish in the top 7.

Blanchard finished seventh overall, first state place finisher since 09.
