Photos: Faster, Higher, Stronger
In a two-day event, the Guilderland Dutchmen winter track-and-field team took to the track Saturday, Feb. 18, in Saratoga and Monday morning, Feb. 20 at the University at Albany, in attempt to win a sectional title and to move onto the state qualifiers this Sunday. The Guilderland boys’ team finished in ninth place with eight points while the girls’ team finished in fifth place with 41 points.

On Saturday morning, Guilderland athletes put the shot and pole-vault at Saratoga High School. Showing her strength,Guilderland’s Felicia Bianca gets ready to launch her shot during the preliminary round of the Division 1, Section 2 championships. Bianca advanced to the final round and finished in fifth with a distance of 32 feet, 6 inches.

The rest of the Dutch track team competed on Monday morning. Preparing for liftoff, Guilderland’s Isabella Bruno competes in the girls’ high jump, finishing third with a height 4 feet, 10 inches. Bruno also competed in the long jump where she finished second with a jump of 17 feet even, and won in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, 6.50 inches.

Making the leap: Guilderland’s Trevor Anderson goes for distance in the triple jump, competing in the Section 2 championships. Anderson finished in 11th with a distance of 35 feet, 5.25 inches. Teammates Jordan Kimbrough finished in seventh and Micah Carr finished 13th.

Up and over: Guilderland’s Tanner Makowski bends over the bar in the Section 2 championships on Monday morning at the University at Albany. Makowski finished fifth with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches and also finished in 16th place in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 9.25 inches.
