Photos: 7 Dutchmen Wrestle On

The Guilderland Dutchmen wrestling team took the mat on Saturday morning, Feb. 4, at Schenectady High School, looking for Class A sectional titles. Guilderland finished in sixth place with 104.50 points.

Making his opponent feel pain: Guilderland’s Kevin Ochs battled Albany’s Ahmad Samim in a 145-pound quarterfinal weight class. Ochs pinned Samim in 40 seconds and finished in second place behind Shen’s Kiernan Shanahan where Ochs was pinned in 46 seconds.

Contemplating his next move: Dutch’s Tyler Grupe looks to get out of the hold by Columbia’s Pierce Hurd in the 160-pound quarterfinal matchup. Grupe lost to Hurd by pin at 3:43 but came back and finished in fifth place.

Seeing how much time was left in the period, Guilderland’s Dan Myers, on top, fought hard in his 8-6 overtime loss in the 138-pound weight class opening round against Shen’s Nick Lampman. Myers beat Lampman in the consolation semifinals to move on to beat Christian Montgomery to finish third.

Looking for a pin: Guilderland’s Taylor Mooney faces Saratoga’s Brady Schumacher in the 170-pound quarterfinals match-up. Mooney pinned Schumacher in 4:38 and finished in second place after being unable to compete in the finals against Tyler Barnes of Ballston Spa.

In a hand battle: Dutch’s Marcus Berroa attempts to fight off the offensive moves of Saratoga’s Eric Griskowitz in the first round in the 106-pound weight class; Berroa lost, 9-0, then finished fifth overall.

Playing defense: Guilderland’s Colden Dorfman felt the offensive moves of Shen’s Cody Deuel in the first round of the 113-pound weight class. Dorfman fell, 8-2, then lost to Deuel again in the third-place match, losing 4-3.

Making his opponent feel the pain: Guilderland’s Jacob Tarbay took on Colonie’s Tyler Vido in the first round of the 182-pound class. Tarbay won by injury; Vido may have broken his leg. Tarbay finished fifth overall.
