Photos: Eight Dutchmen Grapple Their Way to State Qualifiers
The Guilderland wrestling team battled for Class A championships last Saturday at Saratoga Springs High School. The top five in each weight class will move on to this Saturday’s state qualifiers in Glens Falls. Eight Dutchmen made the cut.

A painful move: Guilderland's Cameron Durant bends his body to put more pressure onto his Class A quarterfinal opponent in the 182-pound weight class. Durant pinned Jack Cooper of Saratoga in 1:09 then came back to beat Josh Bennett of Shaker in the third-place match, winning 13 to 0.

Attempting to lift his opponent: Guilderland’s Dillon Blanchard tries to get Aiden Scott of Columbia off his feet in the 120-pound weight class in the Class A quarterfinals. Blanchard lost, 5 to 2, but wrestled his way to a fifth-place finish by beating Antonio Lomascolo of Shenendehowa by pin in 4:31.

Trying to escape: Guilderland’s Patrick Blanchard attempts to crawl out of the grasp of Niskayuna’s Thomas Minahan in the Class A quarterfinals in the 138-pound weight class. Blanchard lost by pin to the eventual Class A champion in 2:08 but came back to finish fifth by pinning Yotham Sage of Saratoga in 1:55.

True grit: Guilderland’s Shawn Williams battles Shenendehowa’s Izsiah Vyent in the 220-pound Class A quarterfinal at Saratoga High School on Saturday morning. Williams lost to Vyent by pin in 1:41 but battled back to beat Kashon Holmes Jr. of Shaker, 12 to 4, in the fifth-place match and will go on to Glens Falls for the state qualifiers.
