Photos: Birds Fly In Colonial Councils

On Sunday, Jan. 21, the Voorheesville Blackbirds battled the rest of the Colonial Council teams in the Colonial Council championships at Union College. The girls’ team finished sixth with 38 points and the boys’ team finished sixth with 39 points.

Flying bird: Voorheesville’s Hailey Murphy leaps up to clear the hurdle during her heat in the 50-meter hurdles. Murphy finished in 9th with a time of 9.78 seconds and then finished fourth in the high jump at a height of 4 feet, 4 inches.

Big kick: Voorheesville’s Cece Nowik leaps and clears the hurdle during her heat. Nowik finished in 13th with a time of 10.56 seconds.

Quick leap: Voorheesville’s Judah Buckley clears the first hurdle during his 50-meter hurdle heat. Buckley finished 8th with a time of 12.05 seconds then finished 8th in the 3200-meters with a time of 13:05.15.

Battle at the top: Voorheesville’s Savannah Schmidt takes an early lead in the girls’ 1500-meter run. Schmidt finished in second with a time of 5:24.06.

Leaning on the turn: Voorheesville’s Mason Curl starts to make the turn in the 1600-meter run on Sunday afternoon. Curl finished in seventh with a time of 5:07.61.

Breaking away: Voorheesville’s Avery Grant (5) and Alannah McCarthy (4) sprint away from the starting line in the 600-meters. Grant finished second with a time of 1:46.46 and McCarthy finished ninth with a time of 1:58.27.

Fast start: Voorheesville’s Wiley Dawson-Beilby (4) and Eric Guilmette (5) both battle for position along with Albany Academy’s Anthony Gravini at the start of the 600-meters. Dawson-Beilby finished 3rd with a time of 1:37.60 and Guilmette won with a time of 1:36.31.
