Bring on the water: Farnsworth Middle School student Adrian Cummings, dressed in blue, acts as a tsunami, trying to destroy “Havimatu” but teammates Maura Van Wort and Pratham Khare explain how their city is built to withstand even a tsunami. The Farnsworth team finished in fourth in Saturday’s regional competition.

Intrigued: Two judges look like bookends to Voorheesville’s Future City 3D model as Paige Layman, in front, along with her brother, Cooper Layman, and Mariem Sayahi demonstrate the moving parts to their city. Voorheesville won the Innovative Recycling in Public Places Award. The competition requires that no city can cost more than $100 to build so recycled materials are used.

Pointing out parts of their city: Voorheesville middle-school student Paige Layman shows the judges part of “Imperium” at the Future City Competition at the Armory at the Sage Colleges in Albany on Saturday morning. The nationwide program encourages students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades to imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future.
