Photos: Dutch Grapple Well At Sectionals, Send A Pair To States

On Sunday, Jan. 14, the Guilderland girls’ wrestling team competed in the first-ever Section 2 sectional championships to qualify for the New York State Girls Invitational at the SRC Arena and Events Center in Syracuse on Jan. 26.

Using her strength: Guilderland’s Angela Sakeria pushes down on the back of the neck of Niskayuna’s Eva Meshkov in the first round in the 114 pound class. Sakeria won 10-5 but fell in the next round.

Dominating: Guilderland’s Nadia Hawrylchak lays on top of Shaker-Colonie’s Mia Molano as she attempts to pin her in the 132 pound first round match. Hawrylchak won by pin in 3:20 then went on to finish third, qualifying her for the State competition.

Using her strength: Guilderland’s Aniella Kennedy puts a hold on Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk’s Laelah Perea’s left arm as Kennedy attempts to put her opponent on her back in the 138 pound quarterfinal match. Kennedy won by pin in 2:52 then went on to finish second, qualifying her for the State competition.
