Annual Plant Sale and more sponsored by the Helderview Garden Club is scheduled for Saturday June 2 in the lower parking lot of the Voorheesville Elementary School. The plant sale will run from 9 am to 12 pm. Rain or shine.

Realizing Peace through the Natural World: Botanist, teacher, mother, and beloved author Robin Wall Kimmerer will engage attendees in an interactive presentation on “The Gifts of Plants,” exploring the ways in which native plants offer gifts of food, materials, medicine, and beauty. Kimmerer shares her understanding of how plants are our oldest teachers. She encourages humans to act in reciprocity by giving their gifts to care for plants. Following the discussion and book signing will be a light Iroquois White Corn lunch.

Dangerous Frontier Living History Weekend. Travel back to the tumultuous year of 1759 as the Mabee Farm is transformed into an outpost on the Mohawk frontier during the French and Indian War. Danger lurks at every corner as skilled artisans practice their crafts, boats drift down the Mohawk, and militiamen prepare for a climactic battle. Canons will boom, muskets will flare. The 57th Hilltowns Memorial Day Parade is both a celebration and a memorial event commemorating those who have been lost during service to our country. This year’s theme is “Never forget, ever honor” and participants will include: Berne-Knox-Westerlo marching band, floats, military and classic vehicles, horses, fire and emergency vehicles as well as marching groups. The parade begins at 10:00 am and proceeds through the village of Berne.

“What is a Vernal Pond?”  at Thacher Park. 10 a.m. Vernal ponds are ephemeral wetlands that fill with water from winter and spring rains, and usually dry out by the end of summer. Come try your hand at citizen science, and discover why vernal pools are known to be the coral reefs of the northeastern forest. Appropriate for ages 8 and older.
