“John Boyd Thacher, Wampum, and the NYS Museum” at Thacher Visitor Center on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2:00 p.m. In 1989, the NY State Museum (NYSM) repatriated 22 wampum belts to the Onondaga Nation, including four belts originally purchased by John Boyd Thacher. Exhibition, drama and a lawsuit marked Thacher’s tenure as “owner” of the belts, which eventually entered the NYSM collections via Emma Treadwell Thacher.
