Awards and achievements

These students have recently distinguished themselves:

— Carli Zimmerman of Altamont, a student in the Dental Hygiene program at Hudson Valley Community College, represented the college at the Empire Conference for the Dental Hygienists’ Association of the State of New York, held on Long Island, Nov. 1 to 3.

Zimmerman was one of four senior students representing the college’s Dental Hygiene program in the conference’s student table clinics competition. Along with student partner, Colleen Trendell, the pair came in first place for its presentation, Rampant Caries in Our Children;

Julia Fremante of Guilderland is the winner of the 2013 New York State Economics Association Undergraduate Student Paper Competition.

A business economics major with a concentration in finance at the State University of New York College at Oneonta, Fremante was one of six students chosen to present papers during the NYSEA’s 66th Annual Meeting at Farmingdale State College from Oct. 4 to 5.

Fremante’s paper, titled “The Effects of the 2007-2009 Financial Crisis on the Cointegration Relationship Between Stock Markets,” examined how the 2007-2009 global financial crisis influenced the relationship between stock markets around the world. The paper looked at the relationship between the United States stock market and other major stock market indices around the world between 2003-2013, and how this relationship was affected by the financial crisis;
