56 GCSD students sang in honors choirs

GUILDERLAND — Summer was a time for song for selected students from Guilderland schools who participated in the New York American Choral Directors Association Elementary and Middle Honor Choirs this summer.

The ensembles rehearsed and performed during the NYACDA Symposium held as part of the New York State School Music Association summer conference at the Hotel Albany and Conference Center. Guilderland musicians sang with other students from across the state directed by distinguished conductors.

Students in the Elementary Honor Choir sang under the direction of Dr. Susan Brumfield of Texas Tech University. The performance included students representing Altamont Elementary, Guilderland Elementary, Westmere Elementary, and Farnsworth Middle schools.

Participating elementary students included: Gwendolyn Beggs, Kiena Bright, Amelia Call, Giada Champagne, Sean R. Claesgens II, Marie Collison, Jillian Creighton, Santiago Cuevas-Ruis, Morgan Dempsey, Kaitlyn Ditton, Grace Elliott, Carrington Elmore, Sydney Elmore, Matthew Friedman, Reed Gordon, Aria Grisham, Bryan Guo, Rachel Guyer, Alisa Harris, Colin Dane Ingraham, Julianna Jebaraj, Joseph Kenney, Charlotte Jane King, Violet Kriefels, Saurabh Kumar, Rachel Lennon, Samuel Matkin, Nicaya-Isabella Rios, Anna Roberts, Regan Roberts, Emily Russo , Lucy Rutherford, Alexandra Schermerhorn, Dakota Stott, Glenn Trechel, Nina Tuxbury, and Bailey Yerdon.


The Middle School Honor Choir was directed by Dr. Lynne Gackle, director of Choral Activities at Baylor University. The concert included the following students from Farnsworth Middle School: Aman Avvaru, Maxwell Baroni, Dan Bemis, Joey Burdzel, Sean Donnelly, Ben Drzymala, Megan Fitzpatrick, Alex Francis, Lily Friedman, Victoria Gagnon, Olivia Hanley, Emma Klindtworth, Abraham Mohammed, Victoria Nemith, Riley O'Lena, Michelle Prunier, Jade Sill, Jessa Smith, and Andre Valverde.

Both Honor Choirs were accompanied by former Guilderland music teacher Starr Norman. The Guilderland Music Parents and Friends Association helped each singer with attendance costs.

The young singers are students of Diana Ackner, Nancy Casellini, Shannon deFrancqueville, Debbie DiGrado, Terri Mewhorter, and Judy Russo.
