Hilltowns Senior News for Friday, August 15, 2014
On Saturday, Aug. 9, the Hilltowns Seniors saw 41 members plus some guests in attendance for a very busy day.
We started our meeting with a special prayer for our troops’ safety, especially with more activity going on in the Middle East.
Birthday greetings were sung to Janis Pearson. Anniversaries were acknowledged to Bob and Rosemary Porter and to me and my husband, Frank.
I reported on a new service that is coming to our community, the Albany Senior Services is starting an adult day care. Transportation will be provided to people that have none. There will be an open house on Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Helderberg Lutheran Church in Berne. Please come so you can learn more about this service.
In last week's Enterprise, there was an article describing the Helderberg Haven and all that it is going to provide. They are also looking for a manager and an assistant. Please call me for more information.
Next month, there will be a sign-up sheet for seniors to attend an AARP driving course. All seniors can attend.
Announcements were made regarding the NEAT dinner for Aug. 18. Call to make reservations.
There is a food pantry at the Rock Road Chapel. Food is available Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 to 11:00 a.m. Also the Rock Road Chapel serves a free breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. They wonder why they don't see me? Too early for me.
The best part of our day was our guest. The BKW Connections class, taught by Mrs. Conklin, came to entertain us. This summer Mrs. Gibbs went to their class every Tuesday and taught them how to play musical bells. So, they presented three songs. It is always a pleasure to have them come every year. And what fun we have with them. We are just as excited as they are. Thank you Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Conklin for sharing this with us.
We had a very special lunch for them. We had hamburgers, grilled by Carl and Bob, and did they taste good. And of course, ice cream provided by Stewarts. It can't get any better than that.
It is so much fun when youngsters and seniors get together. There are smiles and hugs all around.
We should do this more often.
Skip Skinner provided us with a joke that I tried to write down, but I missed the punch line.
Bernice Bunzey also had a couple. One of Bernice's that I did remember: “Two antennas got married. The service wasn't bad, but the reception was terrible!!"
