HEAP program

Cold months are approach. Heating costs increase. People with monthly incomes under: $2,300 for one person or $3,007 for two people, etc. is eligible for the Heating Assistance Program called HEAP. This grant can be received each heating season and goes directly to the heating company. The amount of the payment to each person is determined by income, living expenses, and type of fuel used. Applications to the program should be available Nov. 14 in the senior office, and if you need assistance completing application, please call to set up an appointment.

Craft programs

Everyone is welcome to join these informal, social groups. There is no cost and you would be free to attend as your schedule permits.  Participants bring in their own materials and supplies.  To join any one of the groups, please contact the Senior Office.

Needlecraft meets Wednesdays at 1 p.m.  Most of the participants in this group crochet or knit.  They share patterns and offer help to each other.  Others take donated yarn and make blankets, mittens, hats, and scarves for those in need.

Quilting meets on Fridays at 1 p.m.  Participants work on individual projects, share patterns, and offer assistance to one another.

Painting meets on Fridays at 10 p.m.  The artists work on individual projects in various mediums including oils, watercolors, and chalks.  This class has an instructor who offers individual assistance as requested.  Each year, there is an art show in June at the Guilderland Public Library for those who wish to exhibit their work.

Donations accepted

We accept donations of wheelchairs and walkers for the purpose of lending them out to those in need of them on a temporary basis. The walkers are also given way to those who need them. The needlecraft group accepts donations of yarn and keeps busy making blankets, hats, mittens, and baby items for donations to Christ Child, Bellevue Hospital and shelters. The quilters are in need of a working sewing machine if you would like to donate one.
