The Guilderland Senior Services is offering the following activities the week of Aug. 8 Call the senior office at 356-1980, ext. 1048 with any questions or for information.

— Monday: Fall exercise class registration, scheduled shopping, aerobics at 9 a.m., Strong Bones Plus and senior fitness at 10:30 a.m., and Strong Bones Plus at 1:30 p.m.;

— Tuesday: Strong Bones Plus at 9 a.m., luncheon of corned flaked chicken thighs or cold plate at 11:30 a.m., food pantry drawing at noon, and Bingo/Rummikub at 12:30 p.m.;

— Wednesday:  Fall exercise class registration, scheduled shopping,  no senior strength and balance at 9 a.m., Strong Bones Plus and senior fitness at 10:30 a.m., needlecraft at 1 p.m., and Strong Bones Plus at 1:30 p.m.; 

— Thursday:  Scheduled shopping, no Silver Sneakers and Strong Bones Plus at 9 a.m., men’s trip to Saratoga Sod Farm at 10 a.m., and mahjong and pinochle at 12:30 p.m.

— Friday: Scheduled shopping, painting at 10 a.m., intermediate bridge at 12:30 p.m., and quilting at 1 p.m.

Luncheon

On Friday, Sept. 23 there will be a luncheon recognizing volunteers.

Substitute drivers

If you are interested in volunteering once in awhile for about an hour-and-a-half, this is an opportunity for you.  Meals are delivered weekdays to Guilderland and Altamont residents. Please call 356-1980 ext. 1095 for further information.

Farmers market coupons

Farmers market coupons are a one-time benefit of $20 per household per year in New York State’s  farmers market checks. Eligible seniors’ gross income must be no more than 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines: a one-person household is $1,832, two-person household is $2,470, etc. This nutrition program helps seniors buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at nearby farmers markets. It will be necessary to bring ID when picking them up. Please call for availability.

We will provide transportation to an area farmers market on Aug. 23 at 10:45 a.m. leaving from the Guilderland town hall as well as pickups at the Omni. Please let us know if you plan to participate.

Class registration

Please register for these fall exercise classes during the week of Aug. 8 in the senior office:

— Senior Aerobics with Theresa Mattison, is on Mondays, at 9 a.m. and is  a complete fitness program geared for seniors. It incorporates strength training, cardiovascular fitness, core conditioning and exercises working the major muscle groups. Loose fitting clothing and good supportive footwear are suggested. Weights are available and mats are provided for floor work.

— Senior Fitness with Theresa Mattison is on Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30  to 11:30 a.m. This  low-level fitness program incorporates strength training, cardiovascular fitness, balance and conditioning exercises working the major muscle groups. Some exercises are done sitting in chairs and standing alongside of them. Loose fitting clothing and good supportive footwear are suggested.There is limited space and previous students have first right of refusal.

—Senior Strength and Balance with Theresa Adams will have a segment of cardiorespiratory exercise, balance and flexibility training, weight training, and core strengthening exercises. We use a variety of equipment. All fitness levels are welcome as we offer regressions and progressions for each exercise to meet the needs of the entire class.

—Silver Sneakers with Theresa Adams, this class is 40 minutes of low-impact exercise designed to help you improve flexibility and balance while increasing muscular endurance. Strength exercises may include lifting handheld weights, stretching resistive tubing and using your own body’s resistance while also using your core muscles to improve balance and stability.

Summer trip

All Brown Coach buses leave from the Hamilton Square Market 32 (formerly 20 Mall — Price Chopper parking garage).

On Sept. 14  we will travel to The Beeches Buffet Dinner Theatre in Rome. We will see the  musical “Tumbling Tumbleweeds.”  The cost is  $70 and the deadline for tickets was Aug. 5. Our departure at 9:15 a.m. and we will return at approximately 5:30 p.m.

On Oct. 5, we will go to the Lake George Dinner Theatre.  Kathleen Clark’s “Southern Comforts” follows a budding romance between Gus, a crusty and cantankerous New Jersey widower and Amanda, a feisty, saucy, and outgoing Southern widow.  Their funny, awkward, and enchanting romance is filled with sweet surprise and unpredictable tribulation.

Please indicate your lunch choice:

— Medallions of beef with Bordelaise Sauce served with roasted potatoes;

— Char-grilled chicken breast with homemade apple relish, lemon vinaigrette served with roasted potatoes (gluten free);

— Broiled Atlantic salmon with lemon, white wine, and caper sauce served with rice pilaf (gluten free); or

— Vegetarian pasta with sautéed vegetables over penne pasta.

All served with choice of Caesar or house salad, rolls, vegetables, dessert and coffee and tea.

The cost is $70. The ticket purchase deadline is Aug. 25.The departure is 10 a.m. and return is approximately 4 p.m.

Ticket sales are on a first come, first serve basis, payment is required to be placed on all trip lists. Ticket deadlines are in place because of refund policies for both the venue and bus transportation. Tickets will be refunded if a trip gets canceled due to low ticket sales. No refunds otherwise, we do keep a waiting list for all trips.
