New venues for female athletes and steak lovers

GUILDERLAND — Crossgates Mall has two new businesses — a clothing store and a restaurant.

Athleta, the women’s sports and active lifestyle apparel brand owned by Gap Inc., offers a collection of apparel for yoga, running, swimming, gym, hiking and skiing — designed by and for female athletes — as well as an array of other products for both athletic and everyday pursuits.

Athleta recently announced the launch of its brand campaign, “Power to the She.”

“Focusing on the limitless ability of women, the campaign creates a movement that not only encourages women to be their best feminine and athletic selves, but create communities where they can encourage one another to strive for excellence regardless of their personal pursuits,” according to a release from Crossgates.

Brazilian steakhouse

Texas de Brazil, at Crossgates joins four other New York locations: Manhattan, Syracuse, Yonkers, and Buffalo.

The new 7,5000-square-foot restaurant features a chef’s table, an open-view grill in the dining room, and a bar area. The space accommodates 230 guests and also offers indoor patio dining.

The steakhouse’s menu has 16 cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and sausage, which are prepared in the traditional Brazilian method — over an open flame — and carved tableside by the restaurant’s gauchos. Guests use cords to indicate when they’d like to sample more cuts of meat, or when they need to take a break.

In addition, diners can also help themselves to salad, which features more than 50 items, such as imported cheeses, charcuterie, Brazilian black beans, roasted vegetables and lobster bisque. The wine list is rich in South American varietals.

Texas de Brazil at Crossgates Mall is open for dinner Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 9:30 p.m.; Friday, from 5 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, from 4 to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, from 4 to 9 p.m. The dining prices are $42.99 for a regular dinner and $24.99 for salad-area only dinner, (Prices exclude beverages and dessert). Children under 2 years old are complimentary; ages 3 to 5 are $5; and youngsters 6 to 12 dine for half-price.
