Westerlo Library Notes for Wednesday, December 11, 2013

There is something new at the Westerlo Public Library.  In the place of the rusty, crumbling, creaky, old book drop there is a bright, shiny, stainless steel, new book drop.  And, the crisp, clear, universal library logo on the side leaves no doubt that this is the place to return your books and videos to the library.  Check-it-out.

Thank you

We couldn’t do it without the support of our community. We thank the Bank of Greene County Charitable Foundation for $1000 in grants. And, we also thank you – our friends and patrons – for supporting our book and bake sales and allowing us to keep the change when paying for fines or photocopies.  Every penny made a difference.

And, finally, we must thank Corner Gateway in Slingerlands for the 50-percent discount on the thank you banner in the window.  This is what community means;  everyone coming together, lending a helping hand for the greater good.

Display case

The snow globe.  What better way to capture the sparkle and magic of Christmas.  For the month of December the library is displaying Mabel Welsch’s beautiful snow globe collection.

Quilting group

The Quilting Group will meet on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m.  Lead by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all skill levels. The group meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month and new members are welcomed.

Children’s program

Toddler and preschool story time meets on Wednesday at 10 a.m.  Join Miss Lee for stories, songs, games and movement activities designed for children ages two to five years old.  In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Technology Walk-In Wednesday

Do you need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills?  See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one, hands-on instruction on how to work the mouse, navigate the Internet, set up an e-mail account, use office automation programs, and more!  If Wednesday mornings are not convenient, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
