Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, November 17, 2016

The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 for Thanksgiving.

Coats for Kids

The library is a collection site for the Helderberg Kiwanis Club and BKW Key Club’s 2016 “Coats for Kids” Drive. Donate gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and other cold weather gear for distribution to children in the Hilltowns.

Other collection sites are:  the Berne Public Library, East Berne Post Office, Rensselaerville Post Office, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo School. The drive runs through Nov. 30.

BookPage

Pick up your free copy of the November edition of BookPage! BookPage is a monthly book review and selection guide to the best new books published every month. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries. All of the content from the print edition is posted on BookPage.com each month. Did you miss last month’s issue?  Check our “free shelf” for back issues.

After school

Join Miss Lee on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for homework help, games, crafts, puzzles, music, and a lot more. Programs will also include storytelling, hands-on demonstrations, and visits from special guests. Lee is also available on Thursdays from 3 to 8 p.m. for homework help.

Story time

From 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday mornings Miss Lee presents stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to 5 years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Storytimes are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.

Technology Walk-In Wednesdays

Do you have a new Kindle or Nook, but don’t know how to download books? Need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills?  See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.

Family Game Night

Drop in on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. for Family Game Night. Try one of our board games or bring your own. This unstructured program is open to all ages (and you need not be accompanied by a child to participate).
