Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, November 1, 2018
The Memoir Writing Group at the Westerlo Public Library will meet next Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. This group provides its members a safe and supportive place to learn together.
Led by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all who are interested in self-expression through the art of writing. The group meets once a month on the second Saturday of each month and new members are welcome.
Coats for Kids
Once again, the library is a collection site for the Helderberg Kiwanis Club and BKW Key Club’s 2018 “Coats for Kids” Drive. Donate gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves and other cold weather gear. Everything collected will be donated to the Hilltown Resource Center for distribution to children in the Hilltowns.
Other collection sites are: the Berne Public Library, East Berne Post Office, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo School.
BookPage
Get ready to fall into a good book this autumn with a free copy of BookPage. BookPage is a monthly book review and selection guide to the best new books published every month.
The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries. All of the content from the print edition is posted on BookPage.com each month. Did you miss last month’s issue? Check our “free shelf” for back issues.
Lego Club
Drop in on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to play and create with LEGO. We supply the blocks; you bring the imagination. Miss Lee is also available for homework help.
Story time
Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to five years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.
Story times are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.
Technology Walk-In Wednesdays
Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials? Need to brush up on your computer skills — or obtain basic skills? See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
