Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, October 25, 2018

We have had our first 36-er! — that is, a brave and energetic soul determined to visit all 36 library sites in the Upper Hudson Library System before the end of November.

It can be done! Get started by picking up a map at our Westerlo Library (or any Upper Hudson library) — and you’ve already knocked one off the list. You don’t have to go far to visit five libraries and earn the amazing bumper sticker with the bears in the VW bus.

For more information, ask the library staff or visit:  www.uhls.org/expedition.

Coats for Kids

Once again, the library is a collection site for the Helderberg Kiwanis Club and Berne-Knox-Westerlo Key Club’s 2018 “Coats for Kids” drive.

Donate gently-used coats, hats, gloves, scarves and other cold weather gear. Everything collected will be donated to the Hilltown Resource Center for distribution to children in the Hilltowns.

Other collection sites are: the Berne Public Library, the East Berne Post Office, and the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School.

Lego Club

Drop in on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to play and create with Lego.  We supply the blocks; you bring the imagination. Miss Lee is also available for homework help.

Story time

Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to 5 years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Storytimes are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.

Technology Walk-In Wednesdays

Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials?  Need to brush up on your computer skills — or obtain basic skills?

See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
