Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, September 19, 2013

The Westerlo Public Library’s new quilting group will hold an organizational meeting on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.  Lead by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all skill and levels. Smith is a founding member of the Capital District Textile Artists group and a long-time member of Quilters United in Learning Together (QUILT, Inc.).  She also teaches, gives trunk show talks and exhibits in art galleries.

If you are interested in joining the group, please contact the library, or attend the meeting on Sept. 28.

Book discussion

The library book discussion group will meet tonight Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m., at the library.  We will discuss Samuel Shem’s The Spirit of the Place.  Please join us.  New members are welcomed.

Display case

For the month of September the library is displaying Bridget McDermott’s Littlest Pet Shop Collection.  Nine-year-old Bridget, a fourth-grader at BKW, has been collecting the whimsical, miniature pet figurines for a number of years.  Bridget’s collection includes many fine examples of the colorful critters.

Children’s programs

Thank you to all who joined our Summer Reading Program, “Dig Into Reading!” this year.  We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Toddler/preschool story time meets on Wednesday at 10 a.m.  Join Miss Lee for stories, songs, games and movement activities designed for children ages two to five years old.  In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Technology Walk-In Wednesday

Do you need to brush up on your computer skills or obtain basic skills?  See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one, hands-on instruction on how to work the mouse, navigate the Internet, set up an email account, use office automation programs, and more.  If Wednesday mornings are not convenient, please contact us to schedule an appointment.

Back-to-School Supply Drive

Your donations of school supplies will help kids start the new school year ready to learn.  Donations will be accepted at the library during regular business hours.
