Westerlo Library Notes for Friday, September 1, 2017

The Westerlo Library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of Labor Day.

Read to Lefty

Lefty will be back next Friday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Contact the library to register your child for a 15-minute reading session, or just drop in to “Check it out!” (Librarians love saying, “check it out.”)

Lefty is a registered therapy dog. Our thanks to Eric Markson for volunteering his time and sharing Lefty with us.

Memoir Writing

After a summer hiatus, the Memoir Writing Group will begin meeting again next Saturday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. This group provides its members a safe and supportive place to learn together.

Led by Lila Hollister Smith, this group is open to all who are interested in self-expression through the art of writing. The group meets once a month on the second Saturday of each month and new members are welcomed.

Story time

Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to five years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Storytimes are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.

Technology

Walk-In Wednesdays

Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials?

Need to brush up on your computer skills — or obtain basic skills?  See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
