Westerlo Library Notes for Friday, August 19, 2016
We’ve had some very sad news. Library trustee Margaret Hannay died Thursday, Aug. 11, after a valiant battle with cancer. (See related obituary.)
Margaret was the embodiment of the very best human qualities — those that I think we all might hope to be remembered by. But, above all else, she was kind.
To the Westerlo Board of Library Trustees, she brought her intellect and knowledge of literature, as well as her love of reading, which she shared at the library’s monthly book discussion group.
During her four years on the board, she built bridges to other groups — cultural, civic, and corporate — in the town of Westerlo. And, Margaret was a firm voice of encouragement in current library programs and our long-range future plans.
She will be sorely missed by her library family.
Anniversary Quilt
Help us continue to celebrate the library’s 30th anniversary by sharing the title of your favorite book.
Sponsored by the Westerlo Quilting Group, the first quilted “book shelf” is in the display case. As the titles are added to the quilt, more shelves will be added. Eventually, they will all be pieced together to make one wall hanging to mark the library’s 30 years of service to the town of Westerlo.
Summer reading
Our 2016 summer reading program is in full swing. With the theme “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!” we are exploring sports, games, and activities that promote good health and fitness with books, science experiments, art projects, and other activities. Registration is ongoing and a full calendar of events is available at the link on our website – www.westerlolibrary.org.
