Westerlo Library Notes for Friday, August 17, 2018

The Capital Region Textile Artists, a group made up mostly of members of Quilters United in Learning Together, will meet at the Westerlo Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The CRTA group explores ways to use fabric, fiber, color, and embellishments in unique ways. In addition to sharing work during meetings, members provide one another with comments and suggestions for next steps on pieces they are working on.

Meet the Artist

Thursday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. meet and chat with textile artist Lila Hollister Smith, whose exquisite art quilts are now on display in the Hannay Room at the Library.

Each of the 10 quilts in the exhibit tells a story in fabric inspired by the wonder of nature in her own backyard.

Lila is a self-taught artist, inspired by the juxtaposition of fabric, nature, dreams, and other arts. Most often, she creates wall art or wearable art coats. Her work has been exhibited widely at local quilt shows and her judged entries have won numerous awards including Best Art Quilt and Best of Show.

She is a founding member of the Capital Region Textile Artists group and a long-time member of Quilters United in Learning Together. She also teaches and gives trunk show talks and exhibits in art galleries.

The show will run through the end of August and can be seen during regular library hours. Our thanks to Peter Keitel, President of the Bethlehem Art Association, for curating the exhibit.
