It’s never too late to join in. Stop in, sign up, and get our brochure of programs and special events planned for July and August. A full calendar of programs is also at the Summer Reading link on our website – www.westerlolibrary.org

Art Quilt Exhibit

Lila Hollister Smith defines her art quilts as “a piece of fine art with fabric as the medium.”  All the qualities of a good painting are employed: composition, perspective, value contrast, originality, color (for harmony, mood, movement), line, and shape to tell a story.

Ten of Lila’s art quilts are on currently on display in the new Hannay Room at the Westerlo Library.  Each quilt tells a story in fabric inspired by the wonder of nature in her own backyard.

Lila Hollister Smith is a self-taught artist, inspired by the juxtaposition of fabric, nature, dreams, and other arts. Most often, she creates wall art or wearable art coats.

Her work has been exhibited widely at local quilt shows and her judged entries have won numerous awards including Best Art Quilt and Best of Show. She is a founding member of the Capital District Textile Artists group and a long-time member of Quilters United in Learning Together (QUILT Inc.).  She also teaches, gives trunk show talks, and exhibits in art galleries.

The show will be at the library during the months of July and August and may be seen during regular library hours.  Our thanks to Peter Keitel, President of the Bethlehem Art Association, for curating the exhibit.
