Westerlo Library Notes for Monday, July 6, 2015

The Board of Library Trustees will meet on Monday, July 13, at 7 p.m. at the library.  This is an open public meeting.

Girl Scouts hold bake sale

Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, Girl Scout Troop 1056 will hold a bake sale at the library.  This fundraising event is part of the girls’ Bronze Award community service project.

Stop in and see what the girls have already done to help us make our new program room more useful and more comfortable.  Two portable storage bins for children’s craft supplies were donated, artwork that they created themselves has been hung, and flowers were planted outside.  The girls are also volunteering their time with children’s programs.

The Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve.  It is earned with courage, confidence, and character, and making a difference in the world around you.  Thank you, girls!

Summer reading

Our 2015 Summer Reading Program began on Monday, July 6.  With the theme “Every Hero Has a Story,” we will explore the “everyday heroes” that are in our own community.

These unsung heroes make a difference in the lives of others every day and their stories of quiet heroism will inspire us all.

Registration is ongoing and a full calendar of events in available at the link on our website – www.westerlolibrary.org.

Quilting group

The Westerlo Library Quilting Group will meet on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the library.  Members show and share techniques, gadgets, projects and ideas — you may get help with problems or inspiration!   Bring any fabric or fiber (knit, crochet, weaving, etc.) project to show.  We would love to see what you can do!

Lila Hollister Smith leads the group, which is open to all crafters who use fibers and textiles at all skill levels.  The group meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month and new members are welcomed.

Book talk

The library book discussion group will meet on Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. at the library.  We will discuss “The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry” by Gabrielle Zevin.  This enchanting novel about the irascible owner of a bookstore is a love letter to the world of books — an irresistible affirmation of why we read, and why we love.

Please join us.  New members are welcome.
