Westerlo Library Notes for Wednesday, June 15, 2022
Sierra Crane Murdoch’s book “Yellow Bird” tells the true story of an Arikara woman, Lissa Yellow Bird, obsessed with solving a murder on an Indian reservation. The book, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, will be discussed on June 16 by the Westerlo Library’s Thursday Book Club.
For June, the Third Thursday Book Club is reading “Yellow Bird: Oil, Murder and a Woman’s Search for Justice in Indian Country” by Sierra Crane Murdoch. Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk. Join the discussion on June 16 at 6 p.m. in the library.
Summer Reading
Coming in July: Oceans of Possibilities — Summer Reading at the Westerlo Public Library. Summer programs are coming soon.
On July 12, 19, and 26 at 10:30 a.m., there will be Messy Play in the Westerlo Town Park, followed by Coffee Connect for parents at 11:30 a.m.
On July 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 6 p.m., there will be STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) activities with programs sponsored by 4-H.
Patton exhibit
The library is delighted to announce Eleanor Patton is exhibiting her work in the Hannay Community Room Gallery Space. Eleanor, a resident of Westerlo, works in pastels, pencil, watercolors, and collages. Her exhibit will be displayed for the months of May and June.
The gallery space is open during regular library hours, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
StoryWalk is back
Come see the Westerlo Public Library’s StoryWalk in the Westerlo Town Park. Walk in the park and read “Sheep in a Jeep” by Nancy Shaw.
June Spice
Take-and-Make
The June spice is lavender. Pick up a sample and three recipes at the library. This month’s recipes are Lavender Honey Iced Coffee, Homemade Fudgy Lavender Brownies, and Lemon Lavender Shortbread Cookie.

June’s theme for STEAM take-and-makes is “Nature.” There are new kits every week.
