Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, May 10, 2018

The Westerlo Board of Library Trustees will meet on Monday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at the library.  This is an open public meeting.

Annual Book and Bake Sale

The library’s annual Book & Bake Sale will be held this Saturday, May 12 – the day before Mother’s Day – from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations of baked goods are welcomed and may be dropped off on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

This is your chance to treat Mom to something sweet on her special day! There will also be a selection of books, music, and videos for sale, along with our new lightweight book bags.

Memoir writing

The Memoir Writing Group will meet this Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. This group provides its members a safe and supportive place to learn together. Led by Lila Hollister Smith, this group is open to all who are interested in self-expression through the art of writing. The group meets once a month on the second Saturday of each month and new members are welcome.

Dedication of the Hannay Community Room

Please join us next Friday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. as we celebrate the dedication of the Hannay Community Room, our new library program and community meeting room. Light refreshments will be served. Additional parking will be available at First Baptist Church.

Hilltown Artists Exhibition

In conjunction with the opening of the Hannay Community Room, the library is hosting an exhibition of 17 artists from Westerlo and neighboring towns. Their works range from drawing to watercolor to sculpture, and highlight the creative talent that exists in our own backyard. Many of the works on display illustrate local scenes that will be familiar to visitors of the exhibit.

The show will be at the Library through the end of June and can be seen during regular library hours. Most works are available for purchase. Our thanks to Peter Keitel, president of the Bethlehem Art Association, for curating the exhibit.

Lego Club

Drop in on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to play and create with LEGOs. We supply the blocks; you bring the imagination. Miss Lee is also available for homework help.

Story time

Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to five years old.  In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Story times are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.

Technology Walk-In Wednesdays

Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials?  Need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills? See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
