Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, April 11, 2019
The April edition of BookPage is here! Discover your next great book with a free copy.
BookPage is a monthly book-review and selection guide to the best new books published every month. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.
All of the content from the print edition is also posted on BookPage.com each month. Did you miss last month’s issue? Check our “free shelf” for back issues.
Memoir Writing Group
The Memoir Writing Group will meet this Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. This group provides its members a safe and supportive place to learn together.
Led by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all who are interested in self-expression through the art of writing. The group meets once a month on the second Saturday of each month and new members are welcome.
Artists’ Group
The Artists Group will meet Tuesday, April 16, from 2:15 to 4 p.m. This group provides its members an opportunity to make art together in a spirit of fun and support.
Led by Lila Hollister Smith, the group meets the third Tuesday of the month in the library’s Hannay Community Room, which is also an art gallery.
Beginners are welcome. Bring paper and pencil. If you can sign your name, you can learn to draw! Experienced artists bring your favorite medium.
Book talk
April is Poetry Month! Do you have a poem to share?
The library’s book discussion group will meet Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. Poetry or prose, read for pure pleasure and share your favorites with the group. Please join us. New members are welcome!
Lego Club
Drop in on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to play and create with Lego. Lego uses play to open up the world of math, science and cooperative problem-solving to young minds.
The colorful blocks ignite natural curiosity and build confidence as children bring their ideas to life. Miss Lee is also availablHeading 3e for homework help.
Story time
Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to five years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.
Story times are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.
Technology Walk-In Wednesdays
Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials? Need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills?
See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free personalized, one-on-one instruction.
