Westerlo Library Notes for Wednesday, March 8, 2023

On March 15 at 6 p.m. in the Berne Library, the Hilltown libraries of Berne, Westerlo, and Rensselaerville, will host the opening round of a system-wide spelling bee. Teams of two (adults and young adults) can compete. The finals are on April 30 at 2:30 p.m. at the Colonie Town Library.

Book Club

The book club next meets on March 16 at 4 p.m. Read “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles and join in the discussion. Copies are available at the circulation desk.

Narcan program

On March 21 at 6:30 p.m., the library will present a program about opioids and Narcan with the Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center. Learn about opioids and Narcan. Overdose rescue kits will be available to those who complete the training at this event.

March spice

The spice for the month of March is thyme. Pick up a spice sampler and three recipes using thyme.  This month’s recipes are Low Carb Chicken Cauliflower Rice Soup, Creamy Pumpkin Sauce and Zucchini Noodles, and Thyme Pork Chops.

Lego Club will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Mondays. Come create with Lego!  

Story time is at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Join Miss Lee for stories, music, and movement.

Homework Club and STEM activities are on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Get some help with homework and do some STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) activities.

April programs

The library is having programs every Wednesday in April. All programs are at 1 p.m. On the 5th we have an in-person Medicare program. The 12th is a virtual presentation on Advance Care Planning, including wills and health-care proxies. April 19 is a virtual presentation about lowering prescription costs, and the 26th is a virtual program about identity theft and how to avoid it.
