Westerlo Library Notes for Friday, February 14, 2014
The Westerlo Public Library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17, in observation of Presidents Day.
Tax forms
We have most of the federal tax forms, schedules and instructions and we also have the basic New York State forms that we will copy for you at no cost. Can’t find it? Ask at the desk and we’ll help you locate the tax forms on the Internet.
Display case
For the month of February the library is displaying Logan McDermott’s Matchbox collection. The Matchbox line of miniature die cast vehicles was launched in 1953 when an engineer at British toymaker Lesney Products scaled down one of their toys, a road roller, for his daughter, whose school only permitted children to carry toys that were small enough to fit into a matchbox. Seven-year-old Logan is a student at BKW. He has been collecting Matchbox cars and trucks since he was able to hold one in his hand. This display is only a small part of his collection.
BookPage
Pick up your free copy of the February edition of BookPage. BookPage is a monthly book review and selection guide to the best new books published every month. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries. All of the content from the print edition is posted on BookPage.com each month.
Book discussion
The library book discussion group will meet on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m., at the library. We will discuss September by Rosamunde Pilcher. New members are welcomed.
Story time
Toddler and preschool story time meets on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Join Miss Lee for stories, songs, games and movement activities designed for children ages two to five years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.
Technology Walk-In Wednesday
Do you need to brush up on your computer skills or obtain basic skills? See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., for free, personalized, one-on-one, hands-on instruction on how to work the mouse, navigate the Internet, set up an e-mail account, use office automation programs, and more. If Wednesday mornings are not convenient, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
