Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, December 30, 2020

“Long Flight Home” by Alan Hlad — which tells a World War II story based on true events involving carrier pigeons deployed from England to Germany — will be discussed by two bookclubs at the Voorheesville Public Library.

These are the January book-discussion dates for the Voorheesville Public Library:

— Books & Beyond: Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m.; “Long Flight Home” by Alan Hlad;

— Fiction Book Discussion: Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.; “Long Flight Home” by Alan Hlad;

— Nonfiction Book Discussion: Monday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.; “Driving While Black” by Gretchen Sorin; and

— Middle School Book Club: Thursday, Jan. 28, at 4 .pm. – “The Explorer” by Katherine Rundell.

Please register online each month to receive the private meeting link for any of these virtual book discussions. Limited copies of the book are available, compliments of the Friends of the Library.

Library copies will also be available for checkout and downloadable ebook and audiobook versions are on Overdrive. 

Tackle your debt

You can learn to develop an effective debt pay-down strategy with experts from the State Employees’ Federal Credit Union Institute for Financial Wellbeing. A basic budgeting framework is also discussed.

College conversation

The college choice is even more complicated these days! If you are a high school junior or senior and want to hear how colleges and students are adjusting to pandemic pressures, you are invited to join our Zoom meeting at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13. Please register online to get the link emailed to you.

Holiday hours

In observance of the New Year, the library will close at 1 p.m., today  Dec. 31. The library will re-open at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2.

Wonky Donkey

Story Time

Have you ever heard of a Wonky Donkey? Find out what it is, starting 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12. No registration is needed, and the video link will be available on the Library website, to view at your convenience.

Families of preschoolers can pick up a take-and-make bag at the library each week. The bag will include the storytime thematic art activity of the week. Each week's bags will be at the library from Tuesday-Saturday of that week.

Music and Movement

Please register for “Wintry Mix”, a morning of song and dance themed around wintry weather. If you have stuffed animals who like the wintry weather, bring them along. Other things that can make your time fun are:  something to shake, something to tap and march with, and something that jingles or rings.

From 10 to 10:30 a.m., we’ll have a musical morning of song, dance, and creative movement! The Zoom link will be sent to registrants before the Saturday, January 9 class. Intended for ages 18 months – 5yrs. with parents/caregivers.
