Voorheesville Library Notes for Tuesday, December 13, 2022
Living in upstate New York, winter weather is inevitable. A quick reminder that, if the Voorheesville School District delays opening by two hours or closes for the day due to inclement weather, all morning children’s programs at the library will be canceled.
January book talks
We’ll be discussing these books in January:
— Fiction Book Discussion: “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro, 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, and/or 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4;
— Nonfiction Book Discussion: “Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism” by Amanda Montell, 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9; and
— Middle School Book Club: “Fins” by Randy Wayne White, 10:40 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Voorheesville’s high school library.
All discussions will be held in the library community room, unless otherwise stated. Please register online each month for any of the book discussions. Limited copies of some titles are available for $5, compliments of the Friends of the Library. Library copies will also be available for checkout and downloadable ebook and audiobook versions are on Overdrive.
Blood drive
The Voorheesville Public Library, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will be holding a blood drive, Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are recommended. You can go to www.redcrossblood.org, or call 1-800-redcross to schedule your appointment. One donation can save up to three lives!
Library closed
The library will be closed on Friday, Dec. 16 for a staff development day. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Bricks, Bits,
Bees & Bots
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to register for this creative program using LEGO® bricks for building, littleBits and Strawbees for inventing, and Ozobots to learn easy coding. Join us at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, and have some fun!
Creativity Lab:
Slime Time
Come to the library after school to make something slimy! Students in grades 6 thru 12 are encouraged to register for this deluxe slime program that will delight your senses. Join us at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6. There will be snacks.
Beginner’s
Basket Weaving
Students in grades 5 thru 12 are invited to register for this introduction to basket weaving program. Join us at the library, from 12:30 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7. You’ll meet seasoned basket maker and teacher, Susan Phillips.
Ms. Phillips will lead a hands-on class teaching the basics of basket weaving. You will weave a flat reed basket using simple tools and naturally grown materials. A brief overview of basket making and the various materials used will be provided. No basket weaving experience is necessary and all materials, supplies, and equipment will be provided. Snow date is 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8.
Holiday hours
In observance of Christmas, the library will close at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23. Regular hours will resume at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27.
In observance of the New Year, the library will close at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31. Regular hours will resume at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2.
