Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, December 13, 2018

Dress to impress in your holiday worst! Wear your ugly sweater to the party on Thursday, Dec. 20! Join us at the Voorheesville Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. for a holiday cookie exchange.

Please bring two-dozen homemade cookies to exchange along with the recipe to share with others. Containers will be provided. Music will be playing as we enjoy snacks and color ugly-sweater coloring pages and much more.

Prizes will be given for the ugliest sweater and other fun categories! Light refreshments will be served.  Please register.

Winter Film Festival

Dennis Sullivan will be our host for the Second Annual Winter Film Festival. This year, Dennis has chosen four directors/films that focus on life, death, dance, and subversion.

Mark your calendars for Director Terry Jones on Jan. 16, Director Michael Haneke on Jan. 23, Federico Fellini on Jan. 30, and Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck on  Feb. 13.

All programs will start at 6 p.m., with discussion and insights. Light refreshments will be served. Check the library calendar or call for film titles. No registration is needed.

Book Clubs galore

Have you tried one of our book clubs yet? There’s one for every age and reading preference.

Our adult fiction group meets the first Monday each month at 7 p.m.

Books & Beyond will explore the same title as our evening fiction discussion, but meets on the third Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The Nonfiction Book Discussion group meets the second Monday every other month at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.

We have a middle school book club that meets once a month at the high school library from 10:40 to 11:25 a.m. (Bring your lunch.)

The Kids Book Discussion group, for second- and third-graders, meets the second Friday every other month at 7 .pm.

The “Not a Book Club” and the “Tween Book Bunch” meet every other month, at 7 p.m. on various Fridays.

Watch for information on our newest book club, Families Reading Together, for kids in kindergarten through third grade with a caregiver. For more information on any of these groups, or if you have other ideas for book clubs, stop by and speak with a librarian.

Philosophers 101

People with opinions welcome! No registration needed, just drop in at the next meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, and find a seat. This is a very casual group and there is no homework!

Nimblefingers

Nimblefingers is a wonderful group of ladies (gentlemen are welcome!) who meet at the library every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. to socialize and connect with other crafters.Bring your own project to work on while you talk.

You can share your own talents or learn a new one. They also have some really tasty snacks!

Holiday hours

In observance of the Christmas holiday, the library will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25. The library will resume regular hours at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
