Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, December 6, 2018

— From Chensiyuan

Times Square, the hub of the broadway theater district, attracts 50 million tourists annually, including perhaps some from Voorheesville who take the library’s annual bus trip to New York City, this year on Dec. 15.

Join us on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. for my favorite holiday action film.

You know I can’t tell you the title here, but, if I say a barefoot New York Police Department officer John McClane spends the night trying to rescue his wife, Holly Gennaro, from bad guy Hans Gruber at a Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza, I’m sure you will know what film I speak of.

The film is rated R; it runs for two hours and 12 minutes. Light refreshments will be served. No registration is needed.

Learn to email

Join Librarian Andrew Ward from 10:30 a.m. to noon, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, as he takes the mystery out of using email. You will learn the basics, such as signing up for a free email account, basic email commands, and how to organize your inbox.

Email is a great way to stay in touch with family and friends, no matter where they live. Andrew is methodical and patient and wants to help you to master this computer skill. His classes are very small, to allow for personal one-on-one attention.

Don’t be shy; ask as many questions as you want. Please call the library at 518-765-2791 to register. While you are registering for this program, ask about his other basic computer classes.

NYC bus trip

There are only a few seats left for our annual bus trip to New York City, so get yours today!

We’ll leave from the Voorheesville Elementary School parking lot at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, and arrive in the city, near Bryant Park, at about 10 a.m. Departure from New York is 7 p.m. with approximate arrival in Voorheesville at 10 p.m.

The cost is $55, and Friends of the Library members pay $50. Cash or check payment is due when you reserve your seat in person at the library.

Ugly Sweater Party

Dress to impress in your holiday worst! Wear your ugly sweater to the party on Thursday, Dec. 20!

Join us from 6 to 8 p.m. for a holiday cookie exchange. Please bring two-dozen homemade cookies to exchange along with the recipe to share with others. Containers will be provided.

Music will be playing as we enjoy snacks and color ugly-sweater coloring pages and much more.  Prizes will be given for the ugliest sweater and other fun categories! Light refreshments will be served.  Please register.

Holiday hours

In observance of the Christmas Holiday, the library will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25. The library will resume regular hours at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Save the dates

Dennis Sullivan will be our host for the second annual Winter Film Festival. This year, Dennis has chosen four films/directors that focus on life, death, dance, and subversion.

Mark your calendars for “The Meaning of Life,” Jan. 16; “Amour,” Jan. 23; “Ginger and Fred,” Jan. 30; and “Lives of Others,” Feb. 13. All programs will start at 6 p.m, with discussion and insights. Light refreshments will be served.
