Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, December 5, 2013
Please stop by the Voorheesville Public Library, on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m., to help us say good-bye to youth services director, Joyce Laiosa. As many of you know, she has been at the library for 16 years, working in the youth services area.
She has been a part of many of our lives, through our children and grandchildren. We will be hosting an open reception in the community room and, courtesy of the friends of the library, there will be light refreshments. Please join us.
Family evening story time
The whole family will want to join Miss Amy on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m., for a lively evening of gingerbread stories and songs. Gingerbread houses will be made at the end of the program.
Drop in holiday craft program
The holidays are a wonderful time to create homemade craft items to display as decorations or to give as gifts. Drop in the library on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to make some delightful holiday-themed crafts. There will be a variety of crafts for different ages and abilities from age 4 through grade 4.
Join the Friends of the Library
Joining the FOL is a wonderful way to become a library advocate and reinforce your commitment to the community. E-mail for the next meeting date.

Every Other Thursday Night Poets
The EOTNP is always looking for new people to join in the fun. Stop by the library on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. and meet others who share your interest in poetry. For more information, contact Dennis Sullivan at 765-2468.
Humane Society donations
This year the library is collecting donations for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. From Sunday, Dec. 1 through Tuesday, Dec. 31, bring in any pet related item (food, leash, treats, etc.). Place them on our donations for pets table display. For a complete list of acceptable items, go to www.mohawkhumane.org/wishlist.html.
Artist of the month
Our December Artist is Jean Mackay. For more than 20 years Jean has used art as a way to study nature and to share its beauty and diversity with others. Many of her watercolors follow the traditional illustrative style of the 18th and 19th centuries naturalist-explorers who documented the rich variety of plants and animals found in newly discovered lands. Instead of revealing new species, Mackay’s journals and paintings aim to help people see anew and appreciate both the remarkable species and ordinary things we encounter close to home. Jean will be hosting a reception on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Please be sure to stop by and enjoy some light refreshments with the artist.
