Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, November 20, 2019

Enjoy a day (7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Dec. 14) at one of New York’s most exciting holiday destinations and support the Voorheesville Public Library at the same time.

The cost of the bus trip to New York City is $50 for Friends of the Library members; $55 for non-members. Payment in advance is required; no seat is reserved until payment has been received. For more details, please call the library.

Preschool Drive-In Movies

A drive-in movie in November, how can that be? Back by popular demand, we will be revving up our engines for another fun-filled morning at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23!

Come and finish decorating a cardboard box car provided by the Library, then pull up to our big screen. Enjoy a short film or two while munching on popcorn! Ages 2 to 5, please register, space is limited.

Mark W. O’Brien Poetry Reading

You are invited to join us at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 24, as writer/poet Mark W. O’Brien reads from his new collection, “My Childhood Appropriated.” Mark has been widely published at home and abroad.

He began his writing career at VPL in the 1980s, was a founding member of “The Every Other Thursday Night Poetry Group.” was first published in their groundbreaking anthology “Poetry Don’t Pump Gas.” and he was a finalist in the “Smith’s Tavern Poet Laureate Contest.”  Mark is an alumnus of the Blackwater International Poetry Festival (2014 and 2019.) This is his fourth poetry collection. 

Holiday hours

The library will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 29. 

Kids’ Movie Matinee

Students are invited to join us at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov, 29, for this seasonal classic. The Internet Movie Database describes the film like this: “A young girl is transported into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.”

The film is rated PG, and runs for 99 minutes. Light refreshments will be served. No registration is necessary; drop-ins are welcome! For more information, or for the movie’s title, please call the library at 518-765-2791.

Donations requested for Winter Boutique

The Friends of the Library are looking for gently-used, attractive jewelry, purses, wallets, scarves, frames, ornaments, decorative serving dishes, winter-themed linens, coasters, and other winter-themed items.

Items that won’t be sold will be donated. Please drop off your donations on Monday through Friday, Nov. 26 to 30, during regular library hours.

Save the date: Winter Boutique

Looking for a gift for someone special? Stop by and shop at the Second Annual Friends of the Library Winter Boutique, Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The FOL will have an array of winter-themed items to purchase as well as jewelry, fancy frames, purses/wallets and much more. There will be a wide range of new and gently used items for purchase. Saturday, the FOL will also be having a bake sale.

All proceeds benefit the FOL which helps offset costs of events and special purchases for the Voorheesville Public Library.
