There are still a few openings for the family yoga class at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Voorheesville Public Library. Join us for a one-hour free family yoga class with Tricia from Kind Performing Arts!
No yoga experience is necessary and the whole family is invited. Bring a mat if you have one. Class is designed for those ages 4 and up. Children must be accompanied by parent or caregiver.
Eat healthier for the holidays
This food demo and tasting by Nava Atlas will show you how to enjoy a healthier holiday season. Delicious food can be enjoyed guilt-free by using wholesome ingredients. On Sunday, Nov. 18, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., we’ll talk about how to create holiday fare that’s not only tasty, but easy!
The author of “Vegan Holiday Kitchen” who will demonstrate a festive kale salad, a gorgeous dish of black rice, corn, and cranberries that’s perfect for potlucks, and dairy-free smoky cheddar “cheez,” an irresistible appetizer. Nava will also talk about stress-free planning for holiday gatherings, time-saving tips, dishes for sharing, and dealing with dietary restrictions (your own or your guests).
Coding Club
Are you interested in computer coding? Ready to go beyond an hour of code? The library is holding a coding club, after school on Mondays in November. The second class will be held on Nov. 26, from 3 to 4 p.m.
Participants will learn about computational thinking and computer programming fundamentals. For students in grades 6 to 8. Class size is very limited, so please register for each class.
Holiday hours
The library will close at 1 p.m, on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 23.
Winter Boutique donations needed
The Friends of the Library are looking for gently-used, attractive jewelry, purses, wallets, scarves, frames, ornaments, decorative serving dishes, winter-themed linens, coasters and other winter-themed items to be sold at their second annual Winter Boutique.
The Winter Boutique will be held in the library’s community room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. A bake sale will also held on Saturday, December 1 in the library. Please drop off your donations on Monday through Friday, Nov. 26 through 30 between 9:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Food pantry needs
The New Scotland Community Food Pantry is in urgent need of laundry detergent. There are several drop-off locations for the pantry, including the library. For more information, please call the food pantry at 518-765-3806.
Annual bus trip to New York City
Leaving from Voorheesville Elementary School parking lot at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Approximate arrival in New York City, near Bryant Park, is 10 a.m. Departure from New York City is 7 p.m. with approximate arrival in Voorheesville at 10 p.m.. The cost is $55 for non members and Friends of the Library members $50. Cash or check payment is due when you reserve your seat in person at the library.
