Voorheesville Library Notes for Tuesday, November 8, 2022
The Friends of the Voorheesville Library will once again be hosting the Winter Boutique at the library. There will be a wide range of new and gently used items for sale, including, but not limited to: jewelry, fancy frames, purses, wallets, linens, ornaments, serving dishes, scarves, hats, gloves, and so much more.
The sale dates are:
— Friday, Dec. 2, a pre-sale for FOL members only, from noon to 6 p.m.;
— Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and
— Sunday, Dec. 4, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Item donations may be made at the library on Monday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon; on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m.; and, on Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Magic the Gathering
Students in grades 5 and up, as well as adults, are invited to register for this Sunday afternoon of amazing fun. Join us from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13 to play Magic the Gathering, the world’s most popular strategy card game.
During a match, players cast devastating spells, summon creatures of legend, and wield powerful artifacts to best their opponents in a battle of wits. Free decks are available to beginners, and free cards are available for everyone else.
Discover the Pine Bush
Adults are encouraged to register for this extraordinary journey into the Albany Pine Bush. Join us from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 18 to explore these globally rare and nationally significant inland pine barrens. We’ll meet at the Discovery Center, 195 New Karner Rd., Albany.
Teens Care
Community Service
Community service certificates will be provided for students in grades 8 and up who participate in “Hatsgiving”. Join us at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, to machine-sew fleece hats for pediatric cancer patients. We’ll be serving cookies and cocoa, to make you even sweeter. Please register online, so we know how many cookies we’ll need.
The THINGsgiving
Movie Marathon
The library will be hosting a movie tribute to “The Thing.” Join us for one or more adaptations, starting with the original 1951 movie, “The Thing from Another World”, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19. After a short intermission, the 2011 version, “The Thing” will begin at 12:00 p.m. The grand finale will begin at 2 p.m., featuring the 1982 John Carpenter version, “The Thing”.
Game on
Students in grades k-5 are invited to register for this Celebrate International Games Month at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11. We’ll have group games, Minute Challenges, Switch games on the big screen, board and card games galore.
Museum passes
The library now offers over 25 different free passes for local museums and attractions, with lots of new additions added this year. Stop by or check our website for a full list. Call to reserve, and passes will be held for you, up to one hour.
Holiday hours
The library will close at 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
