Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, November 6, 2019

Students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to celebrate International Games Day on Friday, Nov. 8, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., at the Voorheesville Public Library.

Everything gamers love, from Switch videogames on the big screen, to Magic the Gathering, Minecraft on our server, and a variety of board games, there is something for everyone. There will be snacks! Please register.

Sign Language Story Time

Sign language belongs to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, but even hearing children can benefit from being introduced to and learning it. Librarian/Storyteller Ann Gainer will offer a fun, interactive, and educational storytime for young children and families. Children ages 2 to 6 with caregiver, please join us from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9. Please register.

Second Sunday Film

Join us at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, for “the story of the legendary rock band Queen and the lead singer, Freddy Mercury, leading up to their famous 1985 performance at Live Aid.” Light refreshments will be served.

Bricks, Bits & Bots

Drop by on Monday, Nov. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, to program the Ozobots or build inventions with the littleBits. We’ve got LEGO® bricks for all ages and stages, toddlers to tweens, everyone is welcome to drop in and enjoy building together. No registration necessary.

Pilates Mat Class

The Pilates Method is built on six principles: concentration, control, center, fluidity, precision, and breath. The movements are smooth leaving one refreshed and not exhausted. Pilates strengthens and stretches muscles with a focus on balance and core strength. Please register for this free 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 class; no experience necessary. The instructor, Shannon McConnell, is a certified Pilates Mat instructor with the Exercise Safety Association and has been teaching classes for 10 years. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel. For ages 14 to  adult. Please register.

Displays and collections

Please be sure to drop by to enjoy our November Gallery Photographs by artist Samantha Bailey. The display case will exhibit some of the wonderful items that will be for sale at the Annual Winter Boutique, December 7 and 8. Also, our December Artist, Diane Wozniak, would like to extend a public invitation for her Artist Reception, Dec. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. 

NYC bus trip

Enjoy a day (7 a.m. to 10 p.m., on  Dec. 14) at one of New York’s most exciting holiday destinations and support the library at the same time. The cost of the bus trip is $50 for FOL members; $55 for non-members.

Paid reservations are accepted at the circulation desk. Payment in advance is required; no seat is reserved until payment has been received. For more details please call the library.

Veterans Day

In observance of Veterans Day, the library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov.11.
