Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, October 30, 2015
The Voorheesville Public Library is starting a GMO-free seed library — no genetically modified organisms.
As part of the kickoff for the seed program, the library will host a presentation and discussion about how to properly save seeds on Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. Voorheesville Seed Savers and members of Cornell Cooperative Extension Service’s Master Gardener program will discuss how to save seeds and answer any questions the public may have.
Residents will be able to go to a seed catalog in the library and borrow seeds without charge. In exchange, the library will ask borrowing patrons to save some seeds from their harvest and donate them back to the library.
To help kick-start the collection, everyone attending is encouraged to bring vegetable or flower seeds with them for donation. Light refreshments will be served.
Beginning beaded jewelry
Adults and teens ages 14 and up are invited on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. to learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Try adding some wire-looped links or dangles to your project. Check out our beading books and magazines for inspiration. Please register online, and there will be a small materials fee.
Author visit
Come meet Forrest Pritchard on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. as he embarks on a speaking tour to promote his new book “Growing Tomorrow”. Pritchard is a professional farmer and New York Times bestselling author. His farm, Smith Meadows, was one of the first "grass-finished" farms in the country, and Pritchard has sold at leading farmers' markets in Washington D.C. for 15 years.
His first book, “Gaining Ground,” became a New York Times bestseller and was named a top read by The Washington Post, Publishers Weekly, and NPR's “The Splendid Table.” His new book, “Growing Tomorrow,” debuts in October. Books will be available for purchase and the author will sign copies. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
