The Voorheesville Public Library provides tools and offers a variety of beads to make simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.

Adults and teens ages 14 and up can join us for a workshop any time from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to learn easy beading techniques. Please register, and there is a small materials fee depending on project choice.

Saving Slater

Join Alan Fox at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, for as he shares the story of USS Slater and why she was chosen to become the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum.

Stories will be shared about the history of destroyer escorts, Slater’s involvement in World War II; her service in the Greek Navy; and her restoration, transforming her into a world class museum. Presented by a Slater volunteer, this program will give patrons a first-hand look at the hard work that goes into keeping the “Old Girl” afloat.

DIY Frankenstein Operation Game

Students in grades 3 to 8, with a caregiver, are invited to register for this Sunday, Oct. 21, program. Use your own drawing or a photo to make an electronic monster operation game.

Using LEDs, wires, buzzers, and more, each family will create their own personalized game at the library, and then take it home. Supplies will be provided; no electronic experience is necessary.

Protecting native bees and native plants

From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, Peter Bowden will discuss all the new “Wildlife and Pet-Friendly Garden Solutions.” Many new organic and non-chemical products are now available to the home gardener, for better and safe gardening.

Monster Mash Bash

Join Miss Amy at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, for our Halloween Family Story Time! Our “Monster Mash Bash” will feature not-so-scary stories and some terrifyingly delicious snacks as well as a simple craft.

Please come dressed in costume! This event is for kids ages 2 to 7 with a caregiver; please register.

Don’t Get Ticked NY!

Avoiding Lyme and other tick-borne diseases requires avoiding a tick bite.

Join Cornell University’s Joellen Lampman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, as she talks about the different ticks in our area and their biology, the diseases they carry, and how to protect yourself and others from being bitten.

Free tick-removal kits will be offered to attendees willing to participate in a short survey.

Reading together:

“Miguel and the Grand Harmony”

Parents or caregivers and young readers are invited to join us at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, as we discuss “Miguel and the Grand Harmony,” the charming picture-book adaptation of the film “Coco.”

Enjoy festive Day of the Dead activities and snacks, too. This event is for children in grades kindergarten through second grade with a caregiver. Please register and pick up a copy of the book.
