Voorheesville Library Notes for Sunday, October 8, 2017

The Voorheesville Public Library now offers two movie days. You can join us at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoons for a classic movie, with greats like Bogart, Hepburn or Tracey.

And, you can join us at 2 p.m. on the second Sunday of the month for an award winning recent release. All movies include light refreshments and are shown on our new theater system. Check our events calendar for movie titles and ratings. No registration is needed.

Teen Time

Take the bus to the library after school on Friday, Oct. 6, to unwind, play games, or create something. Use SimCity, Scratch, the Leap Motion, 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops. Teach yourself Tinkercad or Sculptris, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program the Ozobots. We have Sticker Circuits, paper, fabric and craft supplies available if you want to get creative. Open from 3 to 5 p.m. to students in grade six and up, please register.

Lego Building

We’ve got bricks for all ages and stages, toddlers to tweens, everyone is welcome to drop in and enjoy building together on Monday, Oct.9 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. No registration is necessary.

Early closing

In observance of Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9, the library will be closing at 5 p.m.

Teen Read Week

Author Cherie Priest will be visiting us on Wednesday, Oct. 11, via Skype to celebrate Teen Read Week. Copies of “I Am Princess X” are available, keep Reading It Forward. This special after-school program will be held at the C.A. Bouton High School’s library, from 2:30 to 3:25 p.m.  Open to grades six and up; please register at the school library or online at www.voorheesvillelibrary.org.

Mediterranean cooking

Please register and join us from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to learn some healthy cooking techniques using olive oil, tasty vegetables and hearty whole grains for a heart healthy diet. Includes food preparation and sampling. The program will be led by Karen Roberts Mort of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany.

Planting fall crops

Register now to join the Voorheesville Seed Library volunteers on Monday, Oct. 16 to discuss planting fall crops and find out how to maximize this often forgotten growing season. A master gardener from Cooperative Extension will be on hand to answer questions from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Don’t forget your seed donations to help replenish the seed library.  

Improve your life

Empower yourself and discover the benefits of essential oils. Please register today for this Tuesday, Oct. 17 program. Join Karen Chenel, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. as she shares an understanding of what an essential oil is and how it can improve your lifestyle.
