Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, September 25, 2013
Are you a Friend of the Library at the Voorheesville Public Library?
Did you enjoy our book sale last weekend? Maybe you would consider joining the FOL and helping our library with other great projects? Membership in the FOL is an important way you can help us raise money to fund special programs and purchase supplies and equipment that are not in the library’s budget.
Some of the programs the FOL support are the summer concerts, summer reading program, author visits and many other programs. FOL members also volunteer to support the library, often baking items for bake sales or helping to sort donated books for the book sales. If you are interested in helping to support and enhance our library services, please stop by to pick up a membership envelope.
NYC bus trip
Saturday, Dec. 7, is the date for the Friends of the Library bus trip to New York City. The bus will leave from the Voorheesville Elementary School parking lot at 7 a.m. and arrive at Bryant Park in NYC at 10 a.m. For the return trip, we will be leaving NYC at 7 p.m. and arrive back in Voorheesville at 10 p.m. The FOL bus trips always fill quickly, so stop by the library at your earliest convenience. The price is $35 for FOL members and $40 for non- members. Paid reservations will be accepted at the circulation desk at the library.
Gadgets and Gizmos: 101
Do you know what an iPad is or a Tablet? On Thursday, Sept. 26, from noon to 1 p.m., you can see an overview of everyday electronic devices and their uses. This workshop is for people with little or no prior computer knowledge who wish to learn the basics. Light refreshments will be served.
Thursday afternoon movies
Now through Oct. 31, we will be showing a new classic movie every Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 p.m. Movie listings can be found in the Bookworm or online at the library website.
Shopping on Amazon.com for the Holidays?
If you’ll be shopping at Amazon.com this holiday season, please remember to start on our library home page, www.voorheesvillelibrary.org. Click the Amazon box and our Friends of the Library will receive a portion of every dollar spent.
Renew overdue items online
Overdue items can now be renewed online as long as there is not a reserve list for the items. Any fines that are due will be added to the cardholder’s account.
Hall gallery and collection display
This is the last week to stroll through our art gallery to admire the oil paintings of local artist Susie Flansburg or discover all of the details in the miniatures display by Ivan Lawson. Our October artist will be Barbara Meilinger, displaying her quilts.
