Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, September 20, 2018

A philosophy group meets every Thursday at the Voorheesville Public Library, including Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. It’s an informal and non-academic group that ordinarily discusses possible topics in between meetings on email.

Family STEAM!

Let’s Get Crackin’

Poor Humpty Dumpty! He has fallen off the wall and his egg has cracked. Can all the king’s horses and all the king’s men put Humpty Dumpty back together again?

Join Miss Amy and Mrs. Brown at 10:30 am on Saturday, Sept. 29, for an egg-cellent morning of Humpty Dumpty stories and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math activities that will include an egg drop experiment, rolling egg painting, building a safe and sturdy wall, torn paper art, and playdough egg characters. This is for kids ages 3 to 7 with a caregiver. Please register.

Community Party

After 30 years of service to the Voorheesville Public Library, Director Gail Sacco is set to retire.

Please join us in a community send-off at the Steve Wallace Swift Road Town Park on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 6 p.m. This will be a potluck luncheon with music, and games for the kid.

To sign up for the potluck, go to www.voorheesvillelibrary.org and follow the link.

Learn about CSS

This class will introduce Cascading Style Sheets, a companion language to HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) that is used to style (think color, fonts, layout) the web.

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m., we will cover the basics and then participants will create their own webpage. No experience with CSS necessary, though participants should be familiar with HTML. Participants may bring their own devices, or use one of the Library’s laptops. This is for people age 13 and older. Please register.

Library Expedition

Visit as many of the 36 UHLS libraries as you can during the months of September through November. Enjoy the self-guided road trip after picking up the map/passport at the Voorheesville Public Library. You’ll earn prizes when you’ve visited 5, 15, 25, and 36 locations.

Finding the right college

Join us as we welcome Dean P. Skarlis, president of the College Advisor of New York, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Dr. Skarlis will discuss college admissions and financial strategy for parents of high school sophomores and juniors.

Flu Shot Clinic

Pharmacists from the Voorheesville Hannaford Pharmacy will be administering flu immunizations on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. Please stop in or call the Library Information Desk at 518-765-2791 to schedule a specific time slot.

Walk-ins are also welcome. Flu Shots are free with most insurance plans. If you are unsure of your policy requirements, the Voorheesville Hannaford can pre-check your insurance at the store at your convenience.
