Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, August 9, 2018

Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 25, for a day trip to visit the Emily Dickinson House in Amherst, Massachusetts. We will have a 60-minute private guided tour of both The Homestead and Evergreens family houses.

After the tour, there is time to explore the museum grounds and village on your own — a short walk to various eateries and shopping. The cost is $55 per person/ $50 for Friends of the Library members. The bus will leave Voorheesville at 7:45 a.m. and return around 6 p.m.

The price includes transportation and the museum entry fee. The trip is sponsored by the Friends of the Voorheesville Public Library.

Songwriting for Teens

Do you listen to music? Then you can write a song. No matter what experience level, songwriting is a fun way to share stories, feelings, and change the world around you.

In this Monday, Aug. 13  workshop you will learn the basics of songwriting by creating a group song, then break into pairs or solo work to find your own voice. Whether you are always humming new tunes, crafting lyrics, or just curious about it all, songwriting is for you.

The class runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to students entering grade seven and up; please register.

Tween Creativity Lab: Ozobot Dance Party

So you think your Ozobot can dance? Prove it!

On Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. you can learn how to program the library’s Ozobots using Ozoblockly.  Pick a song for your dance routine, create a quick costume, and decorate the stage.

We’ll enjoy a robot dance festival, choreographed by you! This is for kids in grades 4 to 6; please register.

Upcycling Crafts

On Thursday, Aug. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. you can learn how to make a reusable grocery bag out of an old t-shirt (no sewing required). We will also have other upcycle projects and ideas. Come for the bag, stay for the fun. Please bring your own t-shirt. Ages seven and up, please register.

Family Story Time: STEAMy Summer Fun

Are you ready for some STEAMy summer fun? We are! Join Miss Amy from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, for a short (but sweet) storytime and then some awesome Steam, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math stations that will include making slime, bubble art, outside water play, and ice cream!

You won't want to miss it! This program is for kids ages 3 to 7 with their caregivers. Please register.

August Artist

The library is proud to welcome local artist Susie Flansburg as our August Artist of the Month.  Susie has been a Voorheesville resident since 1952.

She started painting later in life and credits her accomplishments as an artist to her mentors and friends, Louis Pelky and Ruth Cawley. Please be sure to stop by the library and stroll through the hall gallery to enjoy some wonderful artwork.
