Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, July 24, 2019

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to make, bring, and share your favorite Bobby Flay recipe to the Talk & Taste Cookbook Group at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.

Experienced foodies and beginners are welcome! Registration is required.

Concert with Jay Mankita

Jay Mankita will present a fun-filled family concert at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26. Jay’s songs are thoughtful, wonderfully crazy, and engaging. With such a variety of tempos and styles -- he’s a musical Pied Piper! For all ages. No registration required.

Out of This World Art with the Tang

Join the Tang Museum from 2 to 3:30 p.m., on Monday July 29, as we explore art works by Alma Thomas and Carrie Moyer.

We will create our own textural works inspired by their art and this year’s summer reading program theme, A Universe of Stories! Materials provided include specialty papers, felt, and metallic markers! Grades 1 to 6, please register.

Bricks, Bits, and Bots

We’ve got Lego bricks for all ages and stages, toddlers to tweens; everyone is welcome to drop in from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, and enjoy building together.

You can also program the Ozobots or Mindstorms robots, and build inventions with the littleBits. No registration necessary.

Mug & Muffin Social

As our first Adult Summer Reading Bingo ends, please stop by from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, to discuss your summer adventures. Just bring a mug to fill with a warm or cold beverage and enjoy a muffin provided by the Friends of the Library.

Bring your weekly log and notes to reflect back on adventures.

Dance Around the World

Adults and children in grades 2 and up are invited to kick up your heels to live fiddle music by Tamarack with caller Paul Rosenberg. Enjoy a tradition of community dancing and music handed down from generations at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5.

The Homespun Community Dancers will get everyone involved, especially those who have not danced before. Participants will have fun with the easy-to-learn American barn dance favorites: circles, squares, contras, as well as folk dances from around the world, including Ireland, The Netherlands, Russia, Polynesia, Israel, Latin America, France, Scandinavia, China and Africa.

The toe-tapping tunes consist of reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes and waltzes. Instruments include fiddle, banjo, flute, penny whistle, clarinet, guitar, recorder, and percussion. While participation in the dancing is encouraged, it's also fun to just watch and listen. Please register.
