The Voorheesville Public Library is having a Stuffed Animal Sleepover.
Students in pre-kindergarten to grade 6 should register online to drop off their stuffed animal buddies by noon on Tuesday, July 22, for a fun-filled sleepover in the library. Teen volunteers will entertain them and take great photos to share with you when you pick up your buddies after noon on Wednesday, July 23.
A Tale of Tails:
Pushing Up the Sky
Students in grades 2 through 5 are invited to register for this virtual program. Join us on Zoom at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, as we explore Indigenous American folktales using Joseph Bruchac’s “Pushing Up the Sky: Seven Native American Plays for Children.” Take-and-make bags will be available for pick up prior to the program.
Teens Care
Community Service
Students in grades 7 to 12 can register to pick up supplies to create an item that will bring comfort to shelter animals. Kit pick-ups begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22. Return your finished project by Aug. 14 and receive community service hours.
Creativity Lab
Students in grades 6 through 9 can pick up a project kit, follow or view the project instructions online, and get creative! Get crafty and imaginative with critter craft kits and Fantastic Creature notebooks. Some household supplies and tools may be needed. Registrants can pick up kits beginning at 11 a.m.: Critter Crafts – Wednesday, July 28; and Fantastic Creatures Notebook – Wednesday, Aug. 11. Register separately for the activities that appeal most to you.
Teen Time Play Day
Get outside on Friday, July 30, starting at 2 p.m., to play some ridiculous games with your friends. Join us as we play Angry Birds Catapult Contest, the Obstacle Course, and Olympic Challenges. There will be prizes, and food. Rain date is Friday, Aug. 6.
Animal Meet-and-Greet
Want to meet some amazing animals? The Library has teamed up with the 4-H educators and students and other animal specialists for four nights of animal meet-and-greets, demonstrations, animal0-themed activities, and garden tours by the Master Gardeners.
Children and families can stop in at Cornell Cooperative Extension on Martin Road, anytime between 6 and 8 p.m. each evening, from Monday, Aug. 2 ,through Thursday, Aug. 5; no registration is needed.
Community Conversation
Join Dr. Gretchen Sorin, author, and Ric Burns, documentarian, in a lively conversation about their joint project “Driving While Black: Race, Space and Mobility in America.” The documentary, featured on PBS, is based on Dr. Sorin’s book.
This free program will stream live via the Upper Hudson Library System Zoom platform on Aug. 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., moderated by UHLS Board President Antonio Booth. Please register at bit.ly/Sorinlibraryprogram to receive your Zoom link.
