Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, July 3, 2019

On Tuesday, July 9, at 6:30 p.m., the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company will present “My Mother the Astronaut” for children and families. Aquarius’s mom is an astronaut and today is “Take your child to work day.” Aquarius can't wait to go to NASA and find out what it’s like to be in space!

Join us to learn along with Aquarius. This program is for kids in first grade and older with families. No registration required.

Writing workshop With author Jennifer Roy

Are you a budding writer? Students in grades 6 and up are invited to join award-winning author Jennifer Roy, at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, for a morning of stimulating writing exercises that will hone your writing skills in a fun, relaxed environment!

The library will be partnering with the Cole Summer Writers Institute. This program will be held at the Clayton A. Bouton High School Library. Space is very limited, so please register early.

Space Oddity Listening Party

Join fellow David Bowie fans from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of “Space Oddity.” We’ll discuss his work and listen to a selection of his music.

Book Character Week

Students in grades kindergarten through second grade are invited to join us from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in a fun-filled afternoon of shared reading and hands-on activities celebrating some of our favorite book characters.

Monday, July 15, will be “A Celebration of Pinkalicious and Peterrific,” featuring a cooking lesson with Jodie Fitz from the Price Chopper Kids Cooking Club!

Wednesday, July 17, will be “A Celebration of Fly Guy,” including a Stuffed Animal Space Camp, so bring along your stuffed buddy!

Friday, July 19, will be “A Celebration of Elephant & Piggie,” two of our favorite friends. Please register separately for one, two, or all three days.

Encore! Books

Encore! Books hours are Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Thursdays, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. All donations will be accepted at the sheds during open hours or by appointment.

A Trip to the Moon

Think you or your band can compose an original score to Georges Melies’s 1902 silent film “Le Voyage Dans la Lune, which translates as “A Trip to the Moon”? Upload a video of your performance to YouTube, and send the link to reference@voorpl.org.

We’ll be featuring submissions on our website, and five winners will be invited to perform live at the library on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. Submissions will be accepted from July 20 (the 50th anniversary of the moon landing) through Sept. 20.
