Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, June 28, 2018
Magic is the world’s most popular strategy card game. Throughout the course of a match, players will cast devastating spells, summon creatures of legend, and wield powerful artifacts to best their opponents in a battle of wits. Bring your battle deck at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 2 and work your Magic on other collectors. Free decks are available for beginners, come learn to play! Already know how? Come find new opponents. Students in grades seven to 12, please register.
Holiday closing
In observance of Independence Day, the library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, July 5.
Teen Time
Middle and high schoolers are invited to hang out from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 6 to play games, or make something. Use the Leap Motion or the 3D scanner with our laptops. Build in Minecraft, battle in Pokemon Showdown or bring your deck to play Magic the Gathering. Sewing machines and craft supplies will also be available if you want to create something. There will be snacks. Please register.
Writing Workshop
Are you a budding writer interested in being inspired and learning techniques from an award-winning author of middle grade and young adult books? Join Leslie Connor from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, for a morning of stimulating writing exercises that are sure to get those creative juices flowing! The library will be partnering with the Cole Summer Writer’s Institute, a workshop for middle and high school students to hone their writing skills in a fun, relaxed environment. This program will be held at the Clayton A. Bouton High School. For students entering grades six and up. Please register with the library.
Family Book Discussion and Author Visit
We are excited to have author Leslie Connor visit us in person at the library to facilitate the discussion of her new book! Licensed clinical social worker, Diane Blinn, will be providing information about bullying, a major theme of the book. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck dinner at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11. Beverages and dessert provided. For students entering grades five through nine with caregiver. Please register and pick up a copy of the book.
Reading Together
Parents/caregivers and their children in grades one through three are invited to explore the benefits of a shared “reading together” experience at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16. Join us for an evening of book related activities as we discuss “Miguel and the Grand Harmony” the charming picture book adaptation of the film “Coco”. Please register and pick up a copy of the book.
